I have a '51 CJ3A. I bought a new tube from you a couple of weeks ago, and today I took it with the NDT tire and rim to a local tire shop for installation. The old tire/tube had picked up a long thorn. The guys at the tire shop told me that a liner was necessary. Is the tube flap the same as the liner? Is it really necessary? Maybe the tire shop wasn't interested in my unusual little job. They may have been looking for an excuse. They admitted to me that they hadn't installed a tube for years.

A liner is typically the same thing as a flap yes. Really though you usually just need a tube if installing on a single piece rim. A flap/liner is recommended on split rims.
