Is this seal installed with the extended rubber end pointing out towards the steering wheel or pointing in towards the gearbox?

No it is not. It is for the 15/16" box for the M38 and M38 A1

I have a M38. I don't have the 808414 seal but I have 2 triangle seals that were on each side of the shims. If the triangular paper shims are not required (above oil level) why do we need the 808414 seal? thanks YH

is there such a seal for my 55 truck l6-226? or is the top cap just open?
