will these work on a 1953 m38a1

Yes, that is correct.

I need only one of these, but do I have to remove the front half of the transfer case to remove the pivot pin? Or will the pivot pin pull out from the zerk fitting side?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Remove the set screw then it should slide out. M38/A1 they unscrew if your military.
