My 62 CJ has a 3/8 course thread shifter. Is this knob 3/8 course?

My 3A shifter lever is tapered where the knob fits. Push on, I guess. I bought a new one and when I tried to push it on so it would stay, the rubber split in half. Am I buying the wrong one or was the rubber old and dry?

Yours should be threaded. You may be looking at the old insert that was in your knob that has since broken off.

Another customer asked what thread size and pitch this was. The response was that you thought 3/8" but you'd have to confirm. Was this confirmed 3/8"? Looking for 3/8" by 16 pitch thread.
