I have a 1959 Jeep wagon and I am trying to remove the drums off the rear end, without success. Noticed that the drums have the axle bolts coming thru a center section on the outside of the drum making the drum completely solid looks like a cover plate. Looking at what the diagram for new drums shows completely a different looking drum. I backed off the adjusters on the back side but the drum will not come off is their something else I need to do.

The hub and drum are pressed together with the studs.

I am upgrading a cj3b to 11 inch drum brakes. My backing plate is off a 62 wagon. But my 3 " high drum does not cover the shoes completely, leaving a 1/2 inch exposed. Will this drum fit over the shoes? This drum appears to be the same as the one I already have.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Make sure you have your hub mounted on the outside of the drum if you have TR/SW 11" brakes and you should be all set. Its most likely why you have the gap. The hub is being mounted backwards.

do these drums need to be turned & trued, or are they already machine & ready to use?
Willys Tech:
They are new and don't need to be machined. However anytime you mount a new hub to a brake drum you will want to make sure it is on there centered so its not a bad idea to have it checked out.

Willys Tech:
Your hubs and drums are pressed together with your studs. This is how is was done originally. They can be pressed apart and pressed back together with a hydraulic press.
