When replacing the cap on this distributor, what kind of model should be the match replacement part? IAD? IAY?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
We can help with this. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com

i rebuilt my distributor a few months back. A rebuild kit from you. My number 2 wasn't firing unless i pushed the cap towards the fire wall. Changed all the points cap etc ran like a top. Ran good for a while then one day I drove it about a half a mile and right before I was about to park it it started falling on its face then shut off. Thought it was a fuel issue. Dirty filter. Changed it and the line because it was hard and brittle, still wont run. I rebuilt the carb 3 years ago and have not had one single issue since. I keep aviation gas in it. So i figured maybe it was time again but before i did that i checked the manifold gasket between carb and block decided to replace it. Thing fired right up. Ran for 5 minutes then died. I've not been able to get it to run since. I got a master rebuild kit for the carb still the same result. Checked the fuel pressure from the pump its 3lbs. It'll turn over 3 or 4 times and hit, fire whatever you want to call it but thats it. All it'll do. Tonight beings I know the carb is fresh and fresh new gas I decided to check timing for the 15th time. Got it on TDC took the cap off distributor was a little off. Lined it up as close to number one as i could and got a little more try out of the motor. It wouldn't just hit once then disengage the starter. I played around with it for a while but still couldn't get it to run more than a sec. I was gonna order a distributor thinking it must be a electrical problem beings thats the most action i've gotten out of it since this started. I've got fire at my points and plugs. Really good spark. Which makes me think otherwise, but its literally the only thing I haven't tried. Its a F head 134 motor by the way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive been trying to get this thing running for 2 months now. I'm ready to shoot it with my shotgun lol.

Willys Jeep Tech:
You may have some shaft wobble. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com to help troubleshoot.

Can you tell me where this replacement distributor is made???? I just got a set of points for my existing distributor and the quality was no where near what was on the original points.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can get you a good set of points. Thanks!

Do you have a rebuild kit for this distributor, part #906725?

Will this distributor work on my 1950 F Head engine?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, any 4-134 engine.

This distributor should replace the IAY 4401 correct?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, that is correct.

I am having a very strange problem with my 1946 cj2a 4-134. This has happened 3X and just happened again. it will start 2 -3 times and then will not start at all. I have tracked it down to the distributor Cap. I always have spark at the points. I replaced the coil and some wiring. Every time I replace the distributor Cap, it starts right up. I run it for 3-4 miles and it runs perfect. I then go to put in the garage and it will not start. The first time I replaced distributor it needed it. It was sitting for 4 years. The second time I had parts from the Cap in the bottom of distributor (distributer was a little different from original. the little tip at the top broke off). I just put in a third one which I know is the correct one. It ran perfect. I took it out a second time and was letting it idle and I noticed there was oil on the ground. The oil line from Filter was leaking. I tried to start it and it would not start. So I ordered a new line from you. I doubt the oil line is related to the starting issue, but at this point I am ready to throw in the towel. I am leaning towards getting an entire new distributor which it looks like u have in stock (this is a 6 volt). This issue feels like a country song. I am beside myself on this. I have owned this for 30 years and never had a problem like this. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks for your Time. Ed

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would consider replacing your condensor as well. I would also check your fuel pump as well.

IS CAP,ROTOR AND POINTS FOR THIS DISTRIBUTOR THE SAME AS IN AN ORIGINAL AUTOLIGHT

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
We can help you. Please email mike@Kaiserwillys.com and we can go from there.

Looking down on the cap - Rotation direction?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, that is correct. Counterclock wise.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They are a righty tighty lefty loosey like a normal gas cap.

Can this distributor also works on 24 volt, I have a coil from 24 volt,my distributor is just the same . It is a Jeep Willys CJ3A 1951, converted by the Belgium Army so it is NOT A M38.

Willys Tech:
This is for 6 and 12 volts only.

My original Distributor cam has about 10 Thousands of wear in it, causing the point gap to go from 20 to 30 thousands. Is there a bearing or sleeve repair kit for this issue and bring the specs back to normal? This is a 45 MB with original engine.

Willys Tech:
If the bearing in your old one is bad then your gonna wanna replace it for sure. The gap should stay a consistant .020.

Ihave a 1945cj2a vin#10091like to know the solidstate Distributor will fit or not your list shows 46and up thank you

I have a 1946 cj2 with an Autolite IAD 4008 distributor. Are these centrifugal advance? Can't find any vacuum hookup

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, they are there is two springs under the plate.

Mike, If I purchase this distributor should I also purchase the mounting hardware and bronze bushings ? Thanks Steve

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Both are good to have if you can't reuse your old ones. Sometimes the old hardware is rusted out or missing and needs to be replaced. Thanks

On my distributor, the bot is tight but I am still able to turn the distubator. Is there a fix or do I have to buy one of these?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
There are 2 bolts. One to hold the distributor to the block and another to hold housing to bracket to allow adjustment. Make sure both are tight.

Just installed new distributed assembly, the rotor points differently. Is that to be expected?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Depends where your timing is at. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com or call us toll free. Ask for Mike M.

Just received my new distributor for a 134f. I noticed that the original has an oil drip cap for oiling the bearing. The new one has a round dowel with a c clip on it. Can I assume that the new bearing is sealed? If so what is the purpose of that dowel? And, can I paint the distributor body?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They do it for looks pretty sure. The bearing is sealed in there.

i am rebuilding 4-134 L motor, it was originally 6 volt, the jeep i am putting it back into is currently wired for 12 volts, will this distributor work , and it also had a 6 volt generator, i need to replace with an alternator, and starter that is 12 volt, can you suggest witch part# for those items i would need to purchase. Thanks Sammy

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The distributor should be fine, they work with 6 & 12 volt systems. You will need to replace generator with an alternator but for the starter I would need to know your old starter number. Give me a call at 888.648.4923 and i can fix you up. Thanks

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

This distributor fits my '51 Jeepster F-134. I plan to keep it 6-volt and this distributor is appropriate. I wanted to upgrade to the Solid State version but it is listed as 12-volt only. So, will this standard 6-volt version accept (easily) an after-market Solid State upgrade? If so do you offer that? thanks.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The only way to change to a solid state distributor is by changing the voltage of the vehicle to 12 volts. If the vehicle is staying at 6 volts, than this is correct distributor for your application.

I want to install an electronic distributor on a 51 cj 3 with an external resistor. Do I connect the red wire to the terminal with the wire from the ignition and the other end of the resistor to the coil?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
https://www.kaiserwillys.com/downloads/923068.pdf See link for install instructions for electronic dist.

I have a 1970 CJ5 with a dauntless 225 odd fire, will this work? my points are bad and i cannot find a replacement,

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This is for the 4-134 engine only.

My CJ5 is a 57 but it seems to use a mix of the 55-58 kit and the 59-71. The front springs are 7 leaf and the rear are 9 leaf like in the early kit. Each uses one pivot eye bolt but on the shackle side of each spring it doesn't have the greasable shackle, instead it has a shackle kit like the one shown in the later kit. Will the greasable shackles work? Or is it possible for you to swap out the shackles? Thanks.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Please call us toll free. We can get some more information from you on what you really have going on and fix you up. Thanks!

1950 willys jeepster with 6 cylinder lightning engine. How do I loosen the distributor so I can rotate it to set the timing? Can't find any screw on the shaft etc. thanks

I have a IAY-4401 with a pertonix kit installed. Do you know if that kit would transfer over to this distributor?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sorry, I do not carry pertonix.

If I buy your distributer 906725 what do I do with the vacuum line from the old distributer to the carb?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is not needed. It is a centrifugal advance.

My current distributor has only one wire on the inside coming from the condenser and a outside grounding wire that goes to the block is this normal or should i have two wires in the photo? I ask because my motor will crank but not fire. I have fuel in the carburetor and all my wires from the plugs to the ingnition switch are good and tight. The coil is brand new as well. I am not sure what the issue is could this be it?

Willys Jeep parts tech:
Please call us toll free and we can help you trouble shoot this. Thanks!

Hi , is this an AUTOLITE reproduction ?

Willys Tech:
Autolite does not make these anymore. They are a centrifugal advance style distributor for your 4-134 Willys engine.

I have a 1946 cj2a willys that is hard to start. The motor has been rebuilt,to start I have turn disterutor to start and when it starts I have to turn it to get it to run smooth.is the disterutor worn out. Thanks

Willys Tech:
Sounds like your timing is just out of whack. I would retime the vehicle for sure. You shouldn't have to do that.

How do you get the distribter out

Chip:
I had the same problem. I just tugged on the cap and body, and it came straight out. The gasket from the body to the engine block was holding it in. It was sticky. Pull straight out with a tug.
Willys Tech:
It is only held onto the block with 1 bolt. It pulls straight out then.

Willys Tech:
Yes they are the same. It works on both voltages.
