My GPW engine has an Auto-Lite IAD-4008 distributor with a cap OD of 3-5/16". Is this the correct kit for it? are the contacts for the coil and spark plug cables brass or aluminum?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

I have had a problem with the condenser blowing out. I upgraded to a 12-volt system, including a 12V coil, and still seem to have the problem. I have heard a resistor might solve the problem. 1) Is the lack of the resistor the problem? 2) Would I then get a 12V or a 6V resistor. 3) Would a 6V coil and 6V resistor solve the problem? I look forward to your reply. Thanks! ~P.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You have to have a resistor. Either your coil has it built in or you would have one wired in-between the ignition switch and coil if it doesnt.

Do you have what I believe is a resister. It is mounted on the firewall. The distributor wire is attached to one side and the coil is attached to the other side. I know I need it because without it,it fries the points.

I can't find the ID plate on my distributor, on a 1964 cj5. I'm trying to order a tune-up kit. Any advice? John
Willys Tech:
There should be a metal tag on the distributor. Sometimes they can be hard to see.
