I bought some used axles to replace the ones in my 46 Willys. The splines are the a same and they go into the side gears fine. I removed the axle tube bushings but neither would go in far enough for the spindle to bolt up. I cut about 1/2 inch off the inner left axle and that fixed that issue. The right side it seems the splines are not cut deep enough. Is there a different inner axle length that I can buy
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You may have a clearance issue there on the bushings at your housing or spindle. I would look at those. We do have NOS originals if you want to go that route too.

I noticed that the u joint type axles do not have a machined area for the outer axle bushing to ride on. When replacing the repezza with a joint type shaft is it necessary to remove that brass sleeve from the axle tube?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you are replacing the early style axles with these spicer style axle, you may have to take some off the bushing for clearance.

I ordered these but the u-joint/yoke won't slide through knuckle hole on my 48 cj2a. The u-joint part is too big. Your video shows them sliding through the knuckle hole. Do I need to remove the steering knuckle to install these?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You could put in from backside if you slide it off. Send photos to Mike@kaiserwillys.com so we can take a look.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

I will be replacing my Rzeppa style axles with the Spicer type that you offer and I have two questions. One how does one install lockout hubs when there is a snap ring at the end of the axle, and if you leave the snap ring off will the end play in the axle be OK? Two, I see that the Spicer joint is pre-greasable before it is assembled, but how can it be greased again when it is in a closed knuckle application? Thank you.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
To answer your first question, you would have to trim the threads off of the end of the rzeppa axle. For your second question, you grease the balls and inside the "cage" of the rzeppa shaft. But the knuckle is loaded with knuckle lube anyway and as the vehicle moves, it gets inside the joints.

Willys Tech:
Typically if you have the snap ring style axle shaft the length wont cause any problems. It just bolts up. The spicer style has a grease fitting that usually is just a one time grease.

when I removed the passenger side front axle from a 53 cj-3a the balls fell out of the joint. is this normal or is the joint worn out?
Willys Tech:
Sounds like you have worn balls on the joint. If you still have all the parts you could put them back together but they probably need to be replaced.

Switching to these Axle Shaft will that eliminate the need to grease inside the front hub?
Willys Tech:
You would still want to grease it just to make sure it is all lubricated but yes this is a spicer style joint that can be pregreased.

I understand these replace the RZeppa but I don't see the threaded end that the RZeppa has. Is/are there additional parts needed?
Willys Tech:
It comes with a snap ring to convert you over. Only really early ones were threaded.

Are all '46 CJ-2A front axles Dana 25's ? Seems to me that when I did the rebuild (14 years ago) that mine was a Spicer 21 with a Bendex joint. Am I correct or fuzzy in the brain ?
Willys Tech:
Yes all CJ-2A's or any 4wd Willys thru 65 were Dana 25. Starting the the 60's some CJ-5's had a Dana 27 option.

Does anything have to be changed or adjusted when replacing the bendix style with this?
Willys Tech:
Sometimes you have to take out the bushing at the end of your axle housing tube for clearance. Other than that you are all set to slide in.

Am I correct in assuming these axles and Ujoints replace the original Bendix axles with the ball type joint?
Willys Tech:
Yes that is correct. They are direct replacements.
