They are the same as the 640694 sending unit. 8-10 full and 70-80 empty.

Hi Mike. For a M38 A1 converted to 12v, does this fuel gauge work correctly with a 640494 sending unit?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, that is correct.

What is the ohm range for this gauge?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The same as the sending unit for the CJ2A. 8-10 empty and 70-80 full

this is probably a dumb question but when I'm looking at the back side of a gauge is the right terminal on the right side or is it the other way around. when looking at the front of the gauge is the right terminal on the right side back?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
As you look at the backside.

I purchased this gauge and did not come with a light there is a hole for it, no socket . What would I have to do to get this bulb and socket

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They were not back lit. The dash used a protruding dash light part number: 640284

When the tank is full the gauge reads empty. When the tank is empty it reads full?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sounds like a bad sending unit that is reading backwards. We test our prior to being sent out.

gauge 640763-12v come with light sistem.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They used a protruding dash light originally which we have as well.

I hooked up my gauge and it seems to be working fine but the back of it got very warm and i think i seen a little smoke . Does it have to be grounded ?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, you may have arched it. I would check your wires. Let us know.

When I hook up the power and sensor wire to this gauge, it works properly. When I hook up the ground, the gauge goes to empty. Why doesn’t this work right without the ground?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You have to have a good ground for it to work right. I would check your sending unit as well. Email mike@kaiserwillys.com to help.

can you adjust the ohm with the adjustment screw?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, there is a fine tune with a small flat head screw driver on the back.

Hello, I need to know if you have the same Item (Fuel Gauge) with withe face and crome bezel. Thanks. I will be waiting for your answer.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sorry, these are not made with a chrome bezel

The hole in the back of the gauge, is this to adjust the needle sweep position? If the fuel sending unit on empty reads high, how does adjustment work?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
These is a small slot for a needle nose screw driver for fine adjustment.

The fuel gage I purchased from you didn’t have install directions. If I al looking st the back of the gage the top left terminal has a B above it. The right term has a T above it. At the bottom there is a screw with 3 lines below it, then a terminal and another screw to the right and it says 12v. My old gage had only 2 terminals. 1 went to sending unit and the other to the positive of the ignition. Can you tell me what needs to be hooked up where?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The + post is to ignition. The - post is to ground and the S post is to sender. You can also email mike@kaiserwillys.com for help.

This gauge reads between 1/2 and 1/4 when tank is empty. I ran out of gas. Can this gauge be adjusted to show empty when tank is empty. I also purchased a new sending unit from you and it reads the same.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Both the sending units tabs can be bent for adjustment and the gauge has an adjustment in the window as well.

Hi I hav changed my 42 to 12volt ,if I buy this gauge do i need a new sender

It can be. As long as your body is grounded to the frame.

my new fuel gauge reads only 1/2 full when the tank is actually full. The float seems to be functioning properly. Is there an adjustment procedure?

Willys Tech:
Usually there is a window on the back of the gauge with an adjustment.

My fuel gauge was only working part of the time and is now not working at all. When it was working the needle would go back and forth from empty to full. Is there something wrong with my fuel gauge or my fuel sending unit or something else?

Willys Tech:
It could be either. I would also check your ground as well.

Does this work with the sender unit you are offering, A1292-12V ? Also, what was the ring color of the original GPWs? (I have a '42 GPW and the current rings on the gages are black and chrome -- I assume they were either black or OD)

Willys Tech:
Yes this will work with that sender. If you have a MB or GPW I would use part number: A8184-12

i have 47 cj2a with original fuel gauge which i think was 6 volt system. the system is 12volt now will the original gauge work in 12 volt system. i saw in the parts for this model a 12 volt gauge do i need 12 volt gauge
