I have a CJ-5 transfer case with the 1 1/4" shaft intermediate gear. However, the tooth count is 34x21. The same as a CJ-3 with a 1 1/8 shaft. The CJ-5 intermediate gear with 1 1/4" shaft that you sell has a tooth count of 39x18. This will not fit to my existing side gears. Do you know how I can find a replacement intermediate gear for it? A 34x21 with 1 1/4" shaft intermediate gear.

Can an intermediate shaft gear with a 34 x 21 tooth count be swapped with 39 x 18. I have a 53 CJ3A and purchased a used transfer case from a 47 CJ2A that according to the charts should be compatible. When I received the used case, ordered unseen, the tooth count is different on the gears. I'm wondering if the transfer case in my 53 has been previously changed out. Any suggestions?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You need to stick with the proper gears for the shaft size on your intermediate. They do not interchange.
