Ready to put rebuilt engine back in my CJ-3B. However, the clutch disc has a raised boss on one side. Does the bossed side go toward the engine or the transmission?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It will only install one way. It has to mount flush against your flywheel. The flange goes away. Thanks!

I have CJ3B. Is there any clearance required between the release bearing and the cover fingers? I purchased this kit and installed. However, when I opened a clearance of about 1.5mm according to the vehicle's manual, the clutch would not disengage. Tightening the adjuster will disengage the clutch, but if I do so, the release bearing will continue to rotate while driving. Is it normal for the bearing to continue rotating? Teach me please. Thank you.

I have attached the engine to the bell housing and through the access port it looks like there is 1.5 inches between the bearing that is pushed into the clutch fingers. The clutch pushes all the way to the floor and barely makes contact. Did I forget something or how do I adjust this without pulling engine again?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Probably a free pedal travel issue. I would adjust your release cable to the proper measurement.

I put in a new 8.5" clutch kit in my 62 cj3b, the the throw out bearing sits over an 1" from the pressure plate fingers. even if I depress the clutch pedal all the way down the the throw out bearing doesn't touch the fingers on the pressure plate. any thoughts as to what happened ? I put the old clutch out for trash a long time ago. so I don't have a org to compare to
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You have to set your free pedal travel correctly with your release cable. The proper measurement is 1" free pedal travel.

I just installed this kit on a newly rebuilt L134 in a 49 Jeepster. First off the fork in the kit was way too small so I had to re-use the old one. Then the bearing would not press onto the collar so I had to re-use the old collar with the new bearing. Once all that hassle was over it appeared to work however once we put the engine back in it does not work. I don't have anymore travel on the fork to adjust and my freshly rebuilt engine will not go into gear. So what is wrong with the clutch you sold me? I refuse to take my engine back out so Monday I will have it towed to a shop to have them put yet another new clutch in. If they tell me the wrong clutch is in it I am going to be furious!
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This kit is not for a Willys Jeepster. You need part number: 930731ROD - that is the differences you are describing. Please email mike@kaiserwillys.com happy to help out.

I've got a 52 pickup with the F134. is this the correct clutch. Also the clutch appears to be adjusted nearly all the way out but it doesn't seem to release so it dies taking off in 1rst. i'm assuming this is all clutch related does that sound correct?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This should be the correct kit but it could also have a 9-1/4" clutch. I would double check the measurement of yours before ordering. Thanks

Is there a similar kit with everything but the pressure plate?

I am going to replace the clutch in my cj2a with PTO by removing the engine, as I want to check rear main oil seal and do some clean up/maintenance on engine while doing clutch. I believe it is easier than crawling under and removing trans/transfer case and PTO due to no lift. Question: is it better to take the engine out with the bell housing (disconnect from trans) or without (disconnect between bell housing and engine)? Thanks in advance.
Willys Tech:
If you have a lift it is easier to drop the bell housing with the transmission. If you do want to pull the engine it may be easier to take the bell housing with it too...

I will be installing a rebuilt F134 in my 54 truck. Which clutch kit do I need. The chart shows the 8 1/2 as correct only through 53. I will not be doing this work myself and want to have the correct clutch assembly for the shop that will be replacing the engine. I will not be pulling the engine prior to taking it to the shop.
Willys Tech:
If you have what is most likely a 1953 Willys Truck with a 4-134 F head engine then you should be 8.5 clutch. This will be the one for you.

'bought a master clutch kit, but didn't get a clutch disc alightment tool is that a separate item?
Willys Tech:
That is a local Napa item or what a lot of people do is use a wooden dowel stick.

1948 CJ2A T90 transmission. How do I know if this was a cable or solid clutch linkage assembly. It has a solid linkage, but it is bent to fit the bell housing.
Willys Tech:
If its a CJ-2A then they used a clutch release cable originally.

I have a 49 cj with a 231 ci V6 gm engine. Trans is t90. What clutch would I use for a replacement?
Willys Tech:
It just depends if they kept the original flywheel or used the one out fo the unoriginal engine. You will have to check.

I have a 1957 cj5 and my clutch doesn't engage until about the last inch of pedal travel. Is there an adjustment that will fix that and get me to the engaging at an 1.50 off the floor parameter, or am I looking at a new clutch?
Willys Tech:
You need to adjust your clutch release cable to accomplish this. You usually want about 1.5 free pedal travel.

My cj2a has what appears to be a Rockford clutch. What is the distance from the clutch fingers to the throwing bearing measured through the bell housing access panel after assembly? Mine seems excessive as the yoke must travel a fair distance before contact is made stretching the spring significantly.
Willys Tech:
You should have approx 1-1/2 of free pedal travel before it engauges the clutch.

i have a 1957 cj5 ,it has a 9 and a quarter inch clutch and presure plate my flywheel has a set of holes to take either one ,how do i order a kit for the lager clutch kit ,is bigger better?or should i go with the original8 and a half
Willys Tech:
I would look at the wear pattern on you flywheel to make sure it will accept the 9.25 But if you have both drilled on there you could go with either. The 8.5 is plenty heavy duty.

Is there a way to measure the clutch diameter on a 1960 CJ-5 without removing it from the vehicle?
Willys Tech:
Remove the access cover on top the bellhousing. You can usually get a tape measure down there...
