does this have in-depth information for a 1963 CJ5? should i get the haynes book as well or will this be fine.

What's the difference between this manual and Part # MANUAL-070? (MASTER PARTS LIST MANUAL FITS 55-71 CJ-5 WITH 4-134 & V6 ENGINES) I was reading the descriptions of the 2 and they sound identical from what I'm seeing

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Manual-020 would cover the CJs with the 4 cylinder. Manual-070 is for the CJ5 but covers both the 4 Cylinder and the 225 6 Cylinder.

I bought this manual and it is fantastic for restoring my 65 CJ5... I'm wondering if there is there by chance a digital/pdf version of this manual? My eyes aren't what they used be and some of the print on certain diagrams is kinda small and hard to see. it would be nice to be able to zoom in on a pdf and see more detail.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sorry that I dont have.

Do you have a manual that tells what fluids to use in the differentials, transmission, engine, etc. I also want to add a steering column blinker assembly, as it has some toggle switches that I want to replace. Hi I have a 1952 m38a1 that I want to convert to 12v and do a non military restoration to the jeep. Will manual-20 provide me with all the information and part numbers I need? Will most cj5 parts bolt onto the m38a1. I am mainly concerned with the engine, tranny and transfer case all bolting up to the m38a1 chassis. Thanks.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, this would be the correct manual for the M38A1. It covers the same axles, engines, transmissions and transfer case as the CJs. The only section that wouldn't work the A1 is the voltage but since your changing it over to 12 volts you should be all set. Thanks
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
yes, the Manual-020 is a good manual for the M38A1 if your 12 volt.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The transmission, transfer case and engine would be covered in this manual for converting over to 12v. You will have to modify some parts from the CJ5 in order for them to work on the M38A1. Give us a call toll free and we could go over all of that.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, Manual-020 would be the one to get. Please call us toll free. We are happy to help you out and get you converted over and answer any questions.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It definitely covers the assembly and disassembly of the transmission and transfer case. As well as for the body. Thanks!
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It goes over everything mechanical in detail disassembly and assembly. It does cover some of the body but not in detail on body removal per se. Really there are just a few bolts that need to be removed for that...

Does this manual cover the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of the starter as well as the Warn Locking Hubs?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

Moeckli, I have just bought a 1960 Willys CJ5 and can not find the VIN on the firewall or frame. Is there anywhere else to look or any other #'s to cross reference? I have a title but can't verify that it belongs to this vehicle. Please help!

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It should be on your firewall. If you have a title to it we do have part number DATAPLATE-2 and it can be stamped by you.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If all your ID tags are missing it is gonna be hard to verify. But this may help as far as what should be in vehicle: https://www.kaiserwillys.com/about_willys_jeep_cj5_history_specs
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You could possibly check on the frame rail for a ID tag.
Willys Tech:
It would be on the firewall. Sounds like yours is missing. We do sell part number: DATAPLATE-2

I bought what I was told was a CJ5 - Has Willys plate on inside engine compartment. Serial# 57548 93797. Engine has 4 plugs that come off the block at an angle (not flat on the top). Windshield is split & there is a battery access cover (welded shut) on cowl. I am pretty certain that all parts are original (we have completely disassembled it and the factor paint all matches in areas that where covered up). Can you tell me what I have, and what parts & service manuals I would need.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Sounds like you have a CJ-5. This is the manual you need. Please call us toll free and we can help out.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

In my gasket kit from the machine shop for a 1948 cj2a it came with shims for the new oil pump. How do I measure the clearence to know how many shims I need to use?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
There typically isn't any shims to the engine block. Please call us toll free and we can try to help.
Willys Tech:
That determines your oil pressure. When shims are present, removing shims will decrease pressure. This adjustment will change the pressure at higher speeds but not at idle speed. Safe minimum pressure is 6 lb at idle and 20 lb at 20000 rpm.

Will show me all the brake & clutch pedal locations and pieces? I dont have parts or anything for the clucth or brake assemblies, I was trying to decide if this will show me what I'm missing and how it all hooks together?

Hi, I just bought a 1959 cj5 and the previous owner had said that he had removed the L-head engine to rebuild it but hadn't finished it. Now I was under the impression that the cj5's only ever had the F-head engines in this year, and the cj3B had the L-head engine. Is this correct or did I just misread something at some point?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The CJ-5 and the CJ-3B both originally had the 4-134 F head engine. The early CJ-3A had the 4-134 L head engine. Thanks
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Both CJ-3B and CJ-5 used the 4-134 F head. The earlier Willys used the 4-134 L head.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They only had a 4-134 F in a CJ-5. The CJ-3B is the same. They used a 4-134 L on the earlier Willys.
Willys Tech:
The CJ-3B and CJ-5 always had the 4-134 F head motor. The 4-134 L head was used on CJ-3A and earlier jeeps.

I have a 1950 M38 with a transplant 4-134 F head, would this be the manual for everything except the engine?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This manual will actually cover the 4-134 F. The only thing it won't cover for the M38 is the voltage if you have the original 24 volts. If you've gone to 12 volts, you will be all set. Thanks!
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes that would be the closest manual we have for that vehicle.
Willys Tech:
Yes, it will cover it including the 4-134 L and F head motor.
