what is the maximum backlash for t-18 transfer case gears

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Email mike@Kaiserwillys.com what you are specifically referring to and we can help.

do you have Item # D18BBSG in stock?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, we sure do. Thanks

Is this the right kit for a 62 FC 170?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
As long as your intermediate shaft measures at 1-1/4", it will be the correct kit. Thanks

Hi, I have just replaced all the gaskets and seals in the gear box and transfer case of my 3 speed CJ3b. When i test drove it, both the front and rear transfer case prop shaft seals were leaking. THere seems to be no evidence of damaged seals or similar. I was wondering if i over filled the transfer case. Does the fill hole also represent the full level? Seems like the fill hole is above the output shaft level, which makes the seals work harder so to speak. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Rob

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If you didnt put some silicone on the front and rear output yokes splines then you tend to leak from there. I would apply a thin layer on the splines and also make sure you have your vent installed ontop of the case as well part number: A934

Does this kit include the "Shim Pack" to set the output shaft Timken bearings end play?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Youll want to add part number: A6753

Our 62 Jeep Willys pickup gets vibration starting at 35 mp. there seems to be a little slack or play in the front and rear bearings of the transfer case. Would that cause the vibration?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would check your wheel bearings, steering, toe in/camber. Make sure they are all in spec. I would recommend part number: SJ-7100 steering stabilizer too.

How do i know if my Dana Transfer is 1-1/8" or 1-1/4" Shaft ?.... My Jeep is an CJ3B 1955

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
In that year its 1-1/4" the way to confirm is just look on the backside of the case and measure the intermediate shaft in the middle that is held in place with the lock tab.

Does this include output shaft pilot bushing?

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
A987 is the part number for that. It is separate.

I have a '65 CJ-5 my transfer case make grinding sounds when i let off the gas and won't go into 4H and kicks it back down to 2H. Will the minor overhaul kit fix this problem or is it time to send it in for a full overhaul?

Willys Tech:
It should help for sure but it also sounds like you may have some bad gears.

Hello, is it possible to send in my transfer case for the overhaul process.

Willys Tech:
We sell complete rebuilds part number: 937477 and a few options will come up.

Is it common for the transfer case of a 1966 kaiser cj5 to have a minimal leak or should i be concerned and have it looked at. Thank you for your time. I love your Q&A options.

Willys Tech:
Yes they are leakers. We do sell a gasket set that will solve the problem.

I recently ordered this kit, anyway i can get some instructions, or a diagram of the transfer case, and parts.

Willys Tech:
We do have complete mechanics manuals. Our website will shortly have a full diagram section for the Dana 18. If you have any questions you can also call me toll free too.

Does this kit contain the felt seals for the output shaft behind the yokes and the paper gaskets for the rear cap?

Willys Tech:
Yes that is correct, it will have all the oil seals and felts seals too.

Does this kit include the clutch shaft bearing and if not, what is the part number for it (csn't find it in the catalog)?

Willys Tech:
Yes this kit will have all the bearings in the transfercase.

Your nomenclature states 55-66 for 1 1/4 intermediate shaft. Won't this also fit on a Dana/Spicer 18 t-case from a 1967 jeep with 1 1/4 inermediate shaft?

Willys Tech:
Yes it should work just fine.
