Will this hanger kit work for a 1955 CJ5?

No the CJ-5 used a different set up. Use part number: 2A0402

Why would I want to use this part in lieu of the cheaper universal kit? Is it that much better? Is it stainless steel? I want the best quality- BUT it has to fit, and Universal systems ( in my past hsitory of fixing old vehicles ) are not always the best choice, If it fits everything , it can't possible be taylored specifically for a certain machine. Is this a better choice for a 1946 CJ2A?

They universal kit is just that universal and works but is not exactly like orignal. This kit is a faithful reproduction of the original OEM parts.
