I have 6–226 engine. Do I need to change a crush washer under the bolt head at the top of the canister each time I change the oil? is that crush washer available with the filter?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
If it appears worn or grooved it wouldn't be a bad idea. But they are reusable if sealing well I would say.

When I changed my oil filter I had an oil leak from around the head of the bolt used to tighten/secure the filter housing. I used a crush washer between the bolt head and the filter cover to finally stop the leak. Is that common if so what do you normally use to stop a leak there.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes a crush washer does go there under that bolt. Our oil canisters come with both a fiber washer and a crush washer. Usually you remove the fiber washer and only use the crush washer.

Can you explain briefly how the oil circulates thru filter canister? It appears to be different from the canister on my CJ2A. Thanks
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
You have a small tube in the center of your canister with a pin hole approx 2/3 the way up it. Oil enters into the canister from the top port, thru the filter and is keeps pressure by going thru the pin hole and down thru tube out the outlet at bottom of canister.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL FILTER AND DO YOU CHANGE THE CARTRIDGE BY ITSELF OR THE CANISTER TOO?
Willys Tech:
I would change the oil every 3000 miles for older motors. Just the filter needs to be changed.
