Can I purchase just the cloth covering for the tailgate chains on a 1955 CJ5 ?

When if bought my 1946 CJA the tail gate was welded shut. The brackets are on the tail gate, but there are no latches on the back of the jeep to keep the tail gate closed. What part do I need to latch the tail gate once I have cut the weld to allow the tail gate to open?

You old brackets on the body may still be there. Send us some photos and we can see what all you need.

The cloth covering is riveted on the end that the split link goes on so am I supposed to just poke the split link through the covering or take rivet out & peel it back?

Yes just flex it back over the loop and you are all set.

Morning! I have a 1978 CJ5 that has the standard tailgate that should have chains. Since the restoration work on it, the tailgate chains are missing. It appears that these would fit since the tailgate is the same as previous years. Just wanted to check and see what you thought before I purchased these. Thanks!
