Questions & Answers
good evening, I use this piece (bendix) for a willys dj-3a1962, the image looks the same as the one it comes with. Does that piece fit for my model? And what would be the shipping cost to Oaxaca City, Mexico. C.P. 68258, and means of payment? Sorry if I write something wrong, do it with the translator

I’ve got a 1965 CJ5 needing a replacement bendix. The starter housing says MDU-7003, but the bendix I removed has a roll pin in the center to secure it to the shaft. The picture here doesn’t seem to have one, it’s this the correct part?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, this is right. Its just the way the canned spring is in the pics.

This Prestolite 7004 starter turns my Fhead engine quickly however bendix drive is not being forced into the flywheel with much force when I push the starter button on the floor. can this be be a defective bendix drive or more likely the floor switch (electrical one not the mechanical version with the lever)?

Does the starter stay engaged with flywheel while engine is running. Seem the starter gear is thrust forward all the time
Jacob Fouts:
The gear retracts thru centrifugal advance. So you may want to check to make sure your starter has a strong throw. It could be wrong gauge cables or a bad armature or a weak battery.

Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
No, it is a centrifugal advance. If it is not disengaging you need to look at the starter motor for issues.
