Questions & Answers
Is this tank red because it is painted in the PHENOLIC ALKYD PRIMER paint?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
These tanks just have a rust preventative primer coat to get it through transit and storage. You will still want to do an official primer coat.

There were dimensional problems with these M38 reproduction tanks built by MD Juan. Supposedly the errors have been corrected. Are your tanks new production tanks or older stock? Is there a date stamp or decal on the tank to confirm its build date?

I have a m38 and we ordered a new gas tank for it. Now with the gas tank installed the drivers seat touches the gas tank. Is this normal or do I need some bushings of some sort to go under rear leg

My Jeep has a sediment trap in fuel line. Does that have a replacement filter that is used or just clean it out. (As you can see I haven't opened it as yet, but looks quite dirty.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Depends on the style it is. You would have to inspect.

I have 1953 m38a1 which I am converting to 12 volts I need a fuel tank. Which tank can I use being that it has to be12 volts the tank that I have is no good so I would like to use a tank that is made out of plastic which tank can I use to replace the original one even if I have to modify it. I would need a 12 volt pick up system and sending unit.
Willys Tech:
If you have an M38A1 you need to stick with the M38A1 tank part number: 805605 and use part number:640694 for the sendig unit for 12 volt. It will screw right in. You may want to extend its arm a bit to read fully due to the M38A1's well.

Will this tank fit / work for a '55 CJ5 under the seat installation? I like the large mouth design and the look much better than the small spout of the CJ5. Also think it would be better for filling the tank with a Jerry can:-)
Willys Tech:
If you have a CJ-5 you really need to use part number: 912008. This is a totally different tank specific for the M38.
