What size bolts are recommended to attach the shackle bracket to the frame?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
These were riveted originally. But i would use the largest size possible. I would also consider welding for sure as well to secure.

On my 1947 CJ2A, the threaded tube has broken off of the mounting bracket for the right front shackle. I want to replace that bracket. The bracket, however, appears to have been riveted in place. How do I remove it, and how do I attach a new bracket? Does a new bracket come with mounting hardware?
Willys Tech:
You can grind the bracket and then rebolt it up. I recommend going back and welding it in place if possible for safety. Use hardened hardware.

Is it possible to convert the open style shackles to the closed style? It looks like changing these brackets to the non-threaded style would work. Just wondering about the front brackets. Thanks
Willys Tech:
Im sure anything is possible but I really don't think you would get much benefit out of it. The C-shackles are just as good.
