My jeep needs a new bell crank and I have one, but it is the wrong style (points up instead of down). Can I convert from a pointing down bell crank to a pointing up by buying the appropriate bell crank repair kit and drag link?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The main problem with that idea is that no one makes the early style drag link. They are only available good used. Give us a call toll free and we can get you set up. 888.648.4923. Thanks

The bellcrank on my '61 CJ-3b has a 7/8" brass bushing pressed into the steel center. I just bought a bell crank repair kit for you to remove "slop" from the unit. Do I need to drill or press out the brass bushing or replace the bell crank. If replacing, does 647008 have the right diameter to work with the repair kit (920556) I have?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
The bellcrank repair kit just requires your bellcrank. Any old bushings are not used.

I just installed new bell crank & repair kit and steering is very stiff, even with front wheels off the ground. Could I have overtightened something? Any suggestions? Thanks
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would double check it by disconnecting the tie rods and drag link to confirm. You may want to check your king pins too and inside the gear box.

I have a 54 Willy M38A1. The Bellcrank is very loose which means I need to repair the gears in the gear box since the bellcrank is very loose. However, I am unable to remove the Steering Wheel, thus the steering box to repair. Can this be accomplished while still in the jeep, or does this require enough space? I hope I asked this correctly.
Willys Tech:
You will really need to remove the steering wheel. Order part number: WP300 on our site. It will get you fixed up.
