Questions & Answers
In the first video, you show bolts being used to secure the king pin bearing caps. However, the parts diagram shows studs with nuts. Can you comment on this? Are bolts or studs both acceptable? Or is one preferred over the other? (Some online opinions say bolts are unsafe, which is why I'm looking for your recommendation).
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Studs are stock. Bolts can be used without any issues, though.

Wow - these seals work great! Installed on my CJ2A and topped off the steering knuckles with SAE 90. It's been 3 weeks now and no leaks, no drips, no mess, no nothing! Really surprised how well these seals worked. One less leak to deal with on my 1946. Thanks for a great product guys!

Is there some Jedi secret to be able to install the rubber seal on the knuckle assembly? I have cut the rubber seal and have filed the ends, and am still having trouble to get it to seat in the groove. Throw it in the freezer for a while maybe? 1953 Jeep CJ-3A
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
One you get everything aligned, you will then just tighten the bolts and once the pressure hits evenly, the seal will then seat itself into the knuckle.

I saw a video on You Tube where they added 8 ounces of grease inside the knuckle. Is this correct?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I have seen alot of people use John Deere Corn Head grease. Fill till it comes out the filler plug.

Do I have to cut the rubber seal to install? And, does the bevel face towards the wheel?
WIllys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, to install just cut the all rubber part of the seal. Put the slick in the center up position and wrap around the axle tube. The fill level is not that high. Do the same with the felt seal position wise. Put plates on - do not over torque. Make sure to grease knuckle ball and remove any hi spots.

hi Mike , in the lubrication spec for the cj2a front knuckle it lists grade #1 summer grade #0 , is this a wheel brg grease or a heavy grade oil that is used, note my front axle has bendix type axle shafts in it. thanks Andy
Willys Tech:
We usually use 90 weight gear oil in the knuckles. Dont use synthetic. It tends to leak.

So, starting from the differential side, it ends up with the metal bands with lip out, then the rubber seal with the metal side out, and then the felt seal. Correct?
