Is it normal to have a lot of resistance between the steering gear box and the worm gear. It seems like the worm gear will not slid into the gear box unless I shave use blunt force or shave down the opening in the gear box.

Thanks for getting back to me on the bearing kit for my 1970 CJ5. I notice in your rebuild video the tech used snap rings to hold the races in place but I don't see snap rings coming with the new races and ball bearings. My gear box does not have snap rings. Are snap rings simply not needed?

Willys Tech:
No, the snap ring is not needed. Just use heavy duty axle grease. They worm gear keeps them seated then.

Do you have a bearing kit for a CJ5 that's later than 1966? I have a 1970 CJ5 but I don't see a bearing kit for that year on your website. Thanks for your help.

Willys Tech:
942062 is the part number your after.

Does this include the two snap rings?

Willys Tech:
They are not necessary with this kit.

Will the Ross steering box bolt on1960 cj3b, will that be all I will need to buy fir easier steering

Willys Tech:
They originally used a Ross box on a CJ-3B.

I have a 60 cj5 the steering is very hard even while driving it the worm gear and the sector shaft seem to be ok because it does not slip would new steering bearings likely fix my problem ?

Willys Tech:
I would double check your whole steering. Gear box, sector shaft, drag link, bellcrank, king pins ect.

My old set of bearings had a bearing retainer ring, so I used it with the new bearings. I'm not sure this has anything to do with my problem but now I seem to need more shims to adjust steering column tension. Should I have used them or not?....thanks....

Willys Tech:
This kit does not require a retaining ring. The worm gear will hold them in place.

Does this kit include the retainer?

Willys Tech:
I will have everything you need. The 2 races and ball bearings. You hold them in place with heavy duty axle grease.

In the race, the bearings leave some space, but not enough for another bearing. Is this correct, or should the fit be tight?

Willys Tech:
The bottom race should be fully seated. The upper race needs to be used with the shims part number: A6760 when you put the triangular top cap on part number: A1760 to set the tension on your sector shaft & worm gear. You want enough tension to be tight but not grind.

Do you have a view of the gear box for a 49 cj3a.How do you install worm gear in bearing and where do the thrust washers go

Willys Tech:
We have all the parts and can help out with this. Please call us toll free. We are more than happy to help out.
