Please could you advise if this SPRING WASHER should be fitted ON TOP or UNDERNEATH the shift plate. Opinions seem to vary on this, so I would value your expert opinion. Thank you.

From my Clymer manual: "Lay the shifter plate on the pivot and on the shifter shafts.Lay the spring washer on the pivot." However, this same manual also had the connecting rod offset for the pistons backwards...
