Is this shifter as good as the NOS shifter? I realize there isnt an absolute replacement for that but...
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
It is a really good replacement if you aren't destined to have an original component.

I have a 1963 CJ5 with a T 90 transmission the existing transmission top shifter assembly has a number written on it that says T90-148 The transmission shop is telling me it’s OK to switch it to T90G-148D They did not use a gasket this bothers me please advise, I should order a gasket for this if the shifting gear and the training shop that rebuilt it for me says the shifting handles good even though the numbers don’t match please confirm it ok and can I get a gasket through your firm thank you
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Not sure I fully understand the question, but as long as its a T90 for the 4-134 it should be fine. You always want a gasket on your top shifter to case.

The T-90 in my 56 M38A1 when putting into first gear it acts as though its stuck in forward and reverse at the same time, will not move. After changing gears (2nd-3rd and back, all while sitting still) it will eventually fully engage 1st gear. Doesn't "appear" with the naked eye to have any wear on the shift forks. Could this possibly be the shifter assembly or inside the transmission do you think? Thanks
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would check your shift forks and double check the gear too.

Is it possible to replace the old assembly with the new assembly without taking out the transmission and transfer case in as 1947 cj2a?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:

I have sent a question but don't know if it was answered? Never saw email. Does the top #94611 fit a 1957 CJ7? I don't see bolt holes for the #907107 boot?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Yes, this fits your vehicle. The boot goes to your floor board not the top shifter.

So does this have the hole for a reverse light switch?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
This is not threaded for a reverse switch. Willys didnt use one.

I have a 1966 CJ5 with the T86 transmission. It was recently rebuilt but keeps slipping out of first gear. I believe its the top end springs and balls that are worn but don't know. I realize parts for this are obsolete. Will this T-90 top fit the needs or do you have another idea
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
Email mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can help. It could be your poppet balls and springs.

I have done acomplete rebuild on a 48 Cj2a. (stock) what fun. My problem is the stock shift tower leaks and I need a solution. I have tried at least 4 different towers, same result. If I get your new top will it stop the problem. This is the only leak remaining on the old girl, any suggestions.
Willys Tech:
Sounds like your fill level is too high. you may be overfilling the transmission.

I rebuilt my t90 transmission it was jumping out of 2nd gear replaced the gear and syncro put in new rebuild parts now it is coming out of second gear on occasion. I am wondering if the tower needs replacement or rebuilding. In the past I have solved the second gear problem with a rebuild I know sometimes jumping out of gear is the tower. any suggestions.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
I would check your shift forks for wear for sure. If youve already replaced 2nd speed gear its the next place to look. Also your poppets.

Ok question. I have a old Willy’s 2 wheel drive the old resort pink one lol. It has a t90 3 speed colum shifter. What do I need to convert it to floor shifter?
Phil D'Asaro:
Sell your Transmission to someone who wants a column shift then buy another T90. I think you have what is called the T90J, very cool.

The shift cane appears to be of equal diameter from tranny to shift knob, is that correct? It looks odd -- all 2A canes I've ever seen were tapered down going up the upper half of it.
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
They make the new cane shafts heavy duty. They were originally tapered.

On my 55' T90A I've had leaks from the trans cane tower & back of the shift rails even when I fill only to below the transmi fill hole.. On your "TRANSMISSION TOP SHIFTER ASSEMBLY" is there an upgrade to resolve this? Do I see what looks like a vent, a fill plug & are those rear shift rail plugs? Thanks Jax
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
That is from a build up of pressure. I have had people drill a small vent hole in the freeze plug to prevent this.

I recently purchased this top shifter from you, what is the screw in plug on the top for? My old shifter did not have one? Is it just to add 80/90 wt oil from the top also?
Willys Jeep Parts Tech:
That was for an optional reverse switch. There is a fill plug on the side of your T90 case for the fill level of 90 weight.

I replaced the top shifter on a T-90 transmission for a 1964 CJ-5 Willy Jeep. In first gear, the shifter stick is all the way to the dash and I would like to adjust it so the dash does not almost get hit every time when I start the Jeep moving. How do I adjust the shifter motion range farther back so when it shifters, the shifter stick is not hitting something?

I have replaced the synchronizers, and second gear looks serviceable. But I'm not getting full gear engagment, could it be something fixed by replacing/rebuilding the tower?

My shifter assembly is leaking oil at the rails. Is this an indication of a problem? Will the shift rail caps fix the problem? do you sell those separately?
Willys Tech:
Sounds like it may be overfilled but it shouldnt be a problem.

What are the two silver knobs on the assembly for? IS on of them a vent? The one I have doesn't have either knob but does have the plates attached on the end of the shifter rails to keep them from leaking.Does this assembly fix that leaking problem or do you have to put the plates back on?
Willys Tech:
Those are just free plugs for the shift rails. You wont have any problems with leaking on these.
