I bought two of these straps and they are just like original OEM Jeep CJ version but 5" longer than the originals. Can you have them made 5" shorter to match Jeep CJ OEM straps from 1976-86 model years?

I received this the other day, went to install it and I cant figure it out. I never seen one on my dads jeep, fell off years before I was born. Both my footman loops are welded on. I'm sure I'm overlooking the obvious.

what body modifications do I have to do to my 1942 GPW to add this overdrive?

You would just need to mount the shifter there by your transfer case levers. See above install instructions in link too.
